Father's Day

Wondering what to give your father figure this Father’s Day? It’s tricky to find something as unique as the men we love, but the following characterful bottles of Oregon Wine just might do the trick.

Grown in the Oregon valleys and hills, where a unique microclimate produces award winning wines. Volcanic soils and an average summer temperature of twenty-one degrees celsius makes Oregon perfect pinot noir territory. The adventurous spirit of the region’s wine growers has also resulted in the diverse planting of grapes such as gewurztraminer, riesling, viognier and syrah to name a few.

Oregon Wines are an exciting alternative to the well trodden track of European selection. These bottles are sure to be a talking point at any table you’re gathered around.  It might just spark a new-found interest in ‘new world’ wines for your loved ones.

So whether you’re planning to gift it, or open it for Sunday lunch on June 19th, we think your father, uncle, brother or grandad will love the following four wines. Full of unique character, just like the men you’re planning to celebrate!

Ovum Wines, Old Love Riesling 2020

Buy from: Vinvm, £20.40

Why he will love it:

While Oregon is best known for pinots (we’ll get to that), the next most popular grape variety is riesling. Old Love is a dry white, promising citrus notes like fresh cut blood orange and salty lemon. This white wine has been described by Ovum as its most versatile yet. What could be more appropriate for your father figure than sentimental ‘old love’?

Erath Pinot Noir 2018/19, Oregon

Buy from: Majestic Wines, £17.99

Why he will love it:

Due to ideal climate and oil, Pinot Noir is Oregon’s most grown grape. And Erath was the first label to plant vines in the volcanic soils of the Dundee Hills. You can expect delicate cherry, berry jam and a hint of spice - making it the perfect pairing with your Sunday Roast this Father’s Day.

Domaine Serene Rockblock Syrah 2002

Buy from: Hedonism Wine, £44.80

Why he will love it:

The house of Domaine Serene has done very well in this year’s DWWA awards - so this Syrah caught our eye. It’s from Rogue Valley, Oregon and reviewers have spoken about its medium body, and sweet fruity notes of dark cherry. One for red meat or rich, spiced food
