2017 Penner Ash, Willamette Valley

PENN2017PNW675 (1)

The Producer
In 1998, Lynn started Penner-Ash Wine Cellars with her husband, Ron, carefully crafting small releases of Pinot Noir and Syrah, while still working at the Rex Hill winery. In 2001 Lynn left Rex Hill to focus full time on Penner-Ash. Investment in vineyards and cellar-facilities followed, and in 2005 Lynn and Ron designed and built their own winery on their own estate. Designed to be environmentally sustainable, the building appears as if part of the land itself and is a reflection of the values, spirit and winemaking philosophy of Penner-Ash.

The Wine
Sourced from the estate vineyards, and from other sites in the Willamette Valley, this is a classic example of the refined delicacy of Oregon Pinot noir. Black cherry, and a hint of damp earth on the aromas, with barrel-ageing adding a light wood-spice and a hint of vanilla. The palate is rounded and structures, with soft tannin nibbling at the finish. Strawberry and cherry, with a hint of blackberry, and the same touch of wood-spice characterise the palate.
